here's our catapult drawing on google sketch up. We were originally going to go with this, but decided to make some changes upon building the catapult.

April. 14. 2010

I wasn't here on Monday but Steven and Jessie did a good job. Since last time our glue dissolved almost the entire foam board, we used duct tape first before the glue to prevent them from contacting. I think it works pretty good except Steven kept burning himself with the glue gun. And today we launched our ping pong ball, I think our furthest score was 35, that was really good. Although some other group launched it further, I think our group is pretty happy about ours.

We modified our ping pong launcher today, and it worked better than before. We kind of changed the design, but it DOES work better. Sharon didn't come today, so I had to work with Steven.
We had a hard time drilling a hole in the wood, and that took up half the class time. I have to say I am satisfied with our design, even though it's most likely not going to get the award for launching the furthest

We are making a trebuchet on Google Sketch up, but we are having some difficulties. We are not yet used to the technology, and taking a lot of time. Sharon started over and over, and she can't install Google Sketch up at home so we probably have to think of something. We are finished the orthographic one though. We aren't really sure if the materials that are provided meet our requirements, so we probably have to think about some back up plan too.
hello, i am steven and i like unicorns and ponies and fairies and rainbows and barbie

We are in the beginning stages of our project. Right now we are trying to find a way to modify our mechanism so that I won't just have the basics of a catapult, trebuchet, or a giant crossbow, but we will be able to incorporate the technologies into something better. The catapult uses torsion, the trebuchet uses the weight to fling it, and the giant crossbow uses the elastic to fire it. I hope that we can make a machine that will fire the ping pong ball using all of these techniques. Also the ping pong ball is very light and since it will go farther if the ball has more weight, we will need to glue some heavier object that we won't be using for the machine onto it.
